On November 10, 2006, Legal Aid of NorthWest Texas and the Women’s Advocacy Project will sponsor a one-day legal symposium on domestic violence for the 73 domestic violence shelters in the Texas Panhandle, North and West Texas. The legal symposium for shelter executive directors and legal advocates will be held in Dallas Texas. Every shelter director and legal advocate located in the 114 county service area of Legal Aid will be invited free of charge with travel expenses subsidized. Trainers will include attorneys and advocates from Legal Aid, the Women’s Advocacy Project, private attorneys, Texas Judges and other advocacy organizations. The all day program includes substantive workshops, sessions and multiple tracks for executive directors and legal advocates on how to assist and support victims of domestic violence needing to access the legal system to help end the cycle of violence.
